"The Space My Body Takes Up" (2022)

Expanding upon the more personal work of my collection “My Body,” where I tackled the idea of creating a narrative of my own self, from top to bottom, I have translated that into this second collection of photographs called “The Space My Body Takes Up.” This collection showcases the communal, public spaces that I frequent the most during a typical week at this present time in my life. My schedule is pretty strict, and typical of the schedules of most college students, having the same classes Mondays and Wednesdays, then the same with Tuesdays and Thursdays. This collection shows me walking through a typical Monday and Tuesday cycle of classes, as the titles inform. I pull out those specific spaces my mind focuses on and that my body takes up, frequents the most, from the top of the day Monday to the bottom of the day Tuesday, ending the cycle that will repeat itself again starting all over on Wednesday and ending on Thursday. Then repeating again the next week, and the week after that, and so on; creating the feeling where every day starts to blend together. Similar to my previous work, I wanted to create this meditative process of going from top to bottom, beginning to end, and repeating that process. Repetition has always been something that grounds me and calms me, and that’s what is meant to be communicated through these photographs.
