"My Body" (2022)
Our bodies tell the individual stories of each of us. In this collection of photographs, I tackle that idea in regards to my own personal story, through photographs of my physical self. I wanted it to be more of a personal study of my own body, specifically parts that I never have photographed before in an intentional setting such as this one. Focusing on smaller parts of my body at a time, I am able to create a sort of narrative that goes from my head to my toes, top to bottom. Something I wanted to communicate through the soft tones and limited color palette, is the underlying beauty in the uniqueness that we all possess as individuals. Every detail, no matter how big or small, from our hair color and skin color, to freckles, acne scars, and dry skin. I wanted to communicate the actual beauty in those things that may be considered ugly, different, or weird by today’s standards, or by your own standards. I think some of us set too high of standards for ourselves, and we see every little supposed “imperfection” on our own bodies, it’s hard to see ourselves from someone else’s perspective. Where I see a big, weird shaped nose on myself, someone else may see a beautiful, normal-sized nose when they look at me. We all have insecurities that are sometimes hard to see any different, so I wanted to highlight that in a kind of indirect way through this collection of digital photographs.
